Ecclesia Mildenberger Hospital becomes Ecclesia University Hospitals

Detmold. The Ecclesia Group is bundling its services related to insurance coverage for university hospitals under the brand Ecclesia University Hospitals. At the same time, it is strengthening the cooperation with the other teams within the Ecclesia Group that provide insurance and risk consulting, insurance purchasing and contract management for hospitals.

The broker ECCLESIA mildenberger HOSPITAL (EMH), which specializes in university hospitals, will in future operate under the brand Ecclesia University Hospitals and at the same time become part of Ecclesia Versicherungsdienst GmbH, the largest German insurance broker for the healthcare sector. In this way, Ecclesia wants to combine the specialized know-how for the special insurance requirements in large university hospitals even more closely with the overall expertise of the entire Ecclesia Group, according to the motto “everything from a single source”.

Here is an example: university hospitals require special insurance coverage for research and teaching. For this, Ecclesia offers university hospitals, among other things, a market-leading special concept for the insurance of test subjects in medical studies. In addition, the specialty broker also provides insurance coverage for special new treatment methods and, with the help of the logistics specialist SCHUNCK GROUP, covers the transport of high-quality medications. The Ecclesia Construction unit creates leading coverage options for major construction investments by university institutions.

Ecclesia University Clinics also offers a high level of expertise in the liability insurance solutions that are widespread in large inpatient facilities. Due to decades of working in this field, which is particularly important for inpatient healthcare, the specialists in this form of insurance have an extensive database and actuarial expertise to create a valid total cost of risk analysis. This makes it possible to make a reliable statement about which type of self-pay solution is best for the respective clinic. “This is particularly important because the liability risk in hospitals is characterized by the fact that a large proportion of the claims in an insurance year are not known until years later. In addition, the risk is characterized by a small number of very severe claims,” explains Ansgar Kentrup. He has been a member of the management team since 1 May 2023 and is responsible for the university hospitals target group. The business graduate and Master of Laws (insurance law) has been working for the Ecclesia Group for eight years in various management positions. One of his main areas of focus is the continuous development of liability products for large hospital operators and the opening up of new liability markets.

“70 percent of German university hospitals already trust our services. We will continue to expand this quantitative and qualitative market leadership in order to achieve the greatest benefit for them in the future as well,” says Carsten Stracke, Managing Director of Ecclesia Versicherungsdienst GmbH and previously also Managing Director of EMH. His colleague Michael Petry adds: ”Our customers will not notice the organizational change in their day-to-day dealings with us. The contact persons remain the same, nothing will change there.”
